This time of year is when Atlanta turns into France! Road Atlanta is expecting some 100,000 people today for the 11th running of the Petit Le Mans, which is the mini version of France’s 24 hours of Le Mans.
The race will start at 11:15 a.m. and lasts about 10 hours. There are four different classes of vehicles included in the race, which all will be racing at the same time on the 12-turn, 2.54 mile Grand Prix course.
The Petit Le Mans will be a lot greener this year, according to the AP as reported on MSNBC. The American Le Mans Series, with the help of the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy and SAE International they have been driven to develop fuels to replace gasoline and technologies that will lead to a cleaner environment.
Everyone in the field will also be competing in the first Green Challenge, a competition to highlight the fuel efficiency, carbon footprint and petroleum offset impact of each of the eight manufacturers that race in the ALMS.
In attendance will be luxury brands such as PatrĂ³n Tequila and Oakley sunglasses, setting up vending or hospitality tents in an effort to associate with the top car brands in the world, like Audi, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Porsche, and Panoz Motor Sports.
All of Atlanta will be pulling for local favorite Johnny O’Connell of Flowery Branch who is competing again this year.
